Montgomery County Police released its daily crime summary, highlighting several reported incidents across the county on May 5, 2026.
The 1st District, which covers Bethesda, Chevy Chase, and surrounding areas, reported a residential burglary in the 600 block of Monroe Street. According to MCPD, two suspects were discovered inside a vacant apartment by maintenance staff sometime between 5pm Monday, May 4 and 8:35am Tuesday, May 5. The suspects reportedly fled through a rear window and nothing was stolen.
The 2nd District, which covers Bethesda, Chevy Chase, and Potomac, reported a school violence incident determined to be a swatting call at Walt Whitman High School in the 7100 block of Whittier Boulevard. Police say school staff received a threatening phone call between 12:07pm and 12:42pm that was later determined to be false.
The 3rd District, which covers Silver Spring and Takoma Park, reported two incidents. An auto theft occurred in the 8000 block of 13th Street between 5:30am and 5:35am, where a vehicle was stolen from an apartment garage. Later in the day, officers responded to an aggravated assault in the 1500 block of Heather Hollow Circle at approximately 3:23pm. Police say a suspect stabbed a victim twice with a knife during a dispute. One person was arrested.
The 4th District, which covers Wheaton, Aspen Hill, and Glenmont, reported an auto theft in the 3800 block of Bel Pre Road at approximately 5:04am. A vehicle was reported stolen from the listed address.
The 6th District, which covers Gaithersburg, Montgomery Village, and surrounding areas, reported an auto theft in the 200 block of Muddy Branch Road. Police say a vehicle was stolen from a parking lot between 3:30pm and 4:50pm.
