May 13 Daily Crime Summary Includes Attempted Kidnapping, School Threats, Hate/Bias Incidents

The Montgomery County Police Department has released its daily crime summary for reported incidents on May 13, 2026, which included attempted kidnapping, school threats, weapons offenses, hate/bias incidents, thefts, and an aggravated assault involving a firearm.

The 1st District, which covers Rockville and surrounding areas, reported a catalytic converter theft in the 14500 block of Cartwright Way. Officers also responded to a medical emergency near N Stonestreet Avenue and Frederick Avenue, where a firearm was recovered from a man in the street. One person was arrested on a handgun possession charge.

The 2nd District, which covers Bethesda, Chevy Chase, and surrounding communities, reported an attempted kidnapping near Ashley Drive and Creek Shore Drive Wednesday morning. According to MCPD, a student walking to her school bus was approached by a man who grabbed her wrist and attempted to drag her across the street before she was able to escape. Later in the day, officers responded to a bus stop in the 7100 block of Democracy Boulevard where a person reportedly displayed a handgun during an altercation. No injuries were reported and one arrest was made. Officers also investigated a school threat at Westland Middle School after students reportedly overheard another student make a threatening statement about the school. Police searched the student’s home and said no weapon was found.

The 5th District, which covers Germantown and Clarksburg, investigated a hate/bias incident at John T. Baker Middle School after a student allegedly posted a photo on social media containing an antisemitic symbol and racial slur. Officers also responded to Christa McAuliffe Elementary School after a student reportedly made a threatening statement involving a firearm. Police determined the student did not have access to any weapons.

The 6th District, which covers Gaithersburg and Montgomery Village, reported the theft of tires and rims from two vehicles parked in a garage in the unit block of Barkley Lane. Officers also investigated a hate/bias incident at Watkins Mill Elementary School after racist graffiti was discovered on a playground.
