Woman Slapped After Confronting Suspects Taking Bicycles, Police Say

Takoma Park Police are investigating an alleged assault and bicycle theft that occurred May 8 in the 1200 block of Myrtle Avenue.

According to police, officers responded to the area at approximately 2:37pm for the report of a second-degree assault and theft.

The victim told investigators that around 11:30am, while conducting cleaning services at apartment buildings nearby, she observed two male suspects taking two unsecured bicycles, described as one pink bicycle and one light blue bicycle, from in front of a building.

When the victim confronted the suspects and told them not to take the bicycles, one of the suspects allegedly stated that the bikes belonged to no one because they had been left outside.

Police said one suspect then approached the victim, slapped her in the face with an open hand, and stated that he knew where she worked.

The victim told police she believed the suspects may have been juveniles, possibly around 14 years old, after seeing them board a yellow school bus. The suspects fled in an unknown direction.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Takoma Park Police Department at 301-270-1100 and reference case #260019966.
