Montgomery County Police released a weekend crime summary covering reported incidents from Friday, May 15 through Sunday, May 17 across all six police districts in the county, including multiple armed robberies, burglaries, vehicle thefts, and assaults.
In the 1st District, which covers Rockville, Potomac, Darnestown, and parts of Gaithersburg and North Bethesda, police reported multiple thefts from vehicles, including catalytic converter and airbag thefts. A school burglary was also reported at Hoover Middle School on Postoak Road after five suspects allegedly entered through an unlocked side door late Saturday night and left minutes later. Police also reported a recovered stolen vehicle and an aggravated assault in a parking lot on East Jefferson Street.
The 2nd District, which covers Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Kensington, and parts of North Bethesda and Silver Spring, saw a commercial burglary at the DTLR store on Colesville Road after suspects reportedly forced entry by lifting a closed security gate. Police also reported a vehicle theft on Montgomery Avenue in Bethesda in which the car had reportedly been left unlocked with the keys inside.
In the 3rd District, which covers downtown Silver Spring, Takoma Park, Briggs Chaney, and surrounding communities, officers reported several vehicle thefts and airbag thefts, along with a Metrobus knife incident near University Boulevard and Sligo Creek Parkway. Police said a suspect causing a disturbance on the bus allegedly pulled out a knife and threatened a passenger before leaving the scene. No injuries were reported.
The 4th District, which covers Wheaton, Glenmont, Aspen Hill, Olney, and surrounding areas, included one of the most serious incidents in the summary. Police said a man was allegedly pistol-whipped during an armed robbery that began in the Costco parking lot on Veirs Mill Road. Investigators say the victim was forced into a vehicle, robbed of personal property, driven to his home, and forced to retrieve additional property before being released. Other incidents in the district included residential burglaries, multiple vehicle thefts, and a weapons offense involving exchanged gunfire on Blueridge Avenue that damaged several parked vehicles.
In the 5th District, which covers Germantown, Clarksburg, Damascus, Boyds, and Poolesville, police reported vandalism involving slashed tires on multiple vehicles near Sky Blue Drive and Wisteria Drive.
The 6th District, which covers Gaithersburg, Montgomery Village, and surrounding communities, included an armed robbery involving juvenile victims on Girard Street, where police say a group of juveniles approached another juvenile, threatened him with a knife, and stole personal property. A second victim later reported being robbed by the same group minutes earlier. Police also reported an aggravated assault on Montgomery Village Avenue, a commercial burglary at the Shady Grove Recreational Association pool house, and another vehicle theft.
