Permanent signage is now up at the future site of Montgomery County’s first Hobby Lobby, which will be opening on Monday, June 8th according to a representative at the store.
The new location, at 15750 Shady Grove Road, has been under construction for several months. It is taking over the longtime home of Best Buy, which closed permanently in 2024 after approximately 30 years in business in Gaithersburg.
The arts and crafts retailer, founded in 1972, has grown into one of the largest privately owned chains in the country, with more than 1,000 locations nationwide. Its stores offer a wide range of products including art supplies, home décor, fabrics, seasonal items, furniture, and framing services.
The upcoming opening has generated a mix of reactions within the community, with the company’s expansion into Montgomery County drawing both support and criticism since plans first surfaced.
