Permanent signage is now up at the future Sheetz location in Gaithersburg, as construction continues to move forward at the Walnut Hill Shopping Center.
The new convenience store and gas station is being built at 16529 South Frederick Avenue and appears on track for completion later this summer. Construction on the site began in December and will bring Sheetz’s second location to Montgomery County.
The project includes a 4,959-square-foot retail building and an accessory automobile filling station with up to six fuel canopies and 12 pumping stations. According to previously approved plans, the Gaithersburg location will be the company’s smallest store format, allowing it to fit within the existing shopping center, according to Granite Canyon Partners.
The Sheetz will join a growing list of changes underway at Walnut Hill Shopping Center. Construction recently began on a new 2,385-square-foot Chipotle featuring a drive-thru pickup lane, and a new African restaurant has been announced for the former Lavina space.
Sheetz continues to expand its footprint in Montgomery County following the opening of its first location in 2023 at 751 Progress Way in Gaithersburg. The chain is known for its made-to-order food, 24-hour service, and combination of convenience retail and fuel stations. It operates more than 650 locations across several states and has surpassed 800 locations nationwide.
