The Container Store in Gaithersburg will now close permanently, a representative from the store confirmed to The MoCoShow on Monday evening.
The store, located at 201 Ellington Boulevard, had previously been expected to transition into the company’s new combined “The Container Store + Bed Bath & Beyond” concept. However, those plans have changed, and the Gaithersburg location is now scheduled to close permanently in July.
According to the representative, July 18 has been identified as a tentative closing date. Employees have been offered opportunities to transfer to other company locations, including the Rockville store at 1601 Rockville Pike, which will remain open and continue with the planned transition to the new hybrid format.
As the store prepares to close, shoppers can take advantage of significant discounts. The representative said everything in the store is currently at least 30% off, with some merchandise marked down even further.
In May, we reported that The Container Store was beginning a nationwide transition to a new combined “The Container Store + Bed Bath & Beyond” model. At the time, a representative at the Rockville location said Bed Bath & Beyond merchandise could begin arriving and being stocked within weeks.
The company has described the new format as its future operating model, combining The Container Store’s organizing products and in-home services with an expanded assortment of home goods, décor, storage solutions and other household products associated with the Bed Bath & Beyond brand.
