A woman was killed Thursday night after becoming trapped beneath a fallen tree along the Matthew Henson Trail in the Silver Spring area.
At approximately 9pm, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service crews were dispatched to the trail near 3400 Hewitt Avenue, off Georgia Avenue, for a report of an injured person trapped beneath a fallen tree.
According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the incident occurred along the trail between Spruce Hill Road and Regina Drive. Responding crews searched the area after a passerby reported a pedestrian pinned beneath the tree.
At approximately 9:25pm, MCFRS reported that firefighters and paramedics had located an adult patient suffering from traumatic, life-threatening injuries. The patient was evaluated at the scene and was not transported from the location. Montgomery County Police also responded. FOX 5 later reported that the victim died as a result of the incident.
