With the Fourth of July approaching, personal-finance company WalletHub has released its 2026 report on the Most Patriotic States in America, with Maryland coming in ranked 8th overall.
To determine where Americans show the strongest red, white, and blue pride, WalletHub compared all 50 states across 13 key indicators of patriotism. The dataset includes metrics ranging from military enlistment and veteran populations to the share of adults who voted in the 2024 presidential election and the number of AmeriCorps volunteers per capita.
Maryland ranked 8th overall with a total score of 59.92. The state ranked 20th in military engagement and 10th in civic engagement. According to the report, Maryland ranked 21st for average number of military enlistees per 1,000 civilian adults, 15th for active-duty military personnel per 100,000 civilian adults, 6th for Peace Corps volunteers per capita, 11th for the percentage of adults who voted in the 2024 presidential election, 19th for volunteer rate, 1st for civics education requirement, 20th for volunteer hours per resident, and 23rd for AmeriCorps volunteers per capita.
Neighboring Virginia was ranked as the most patriotic state in the country, followed by Montana, Vermont, Colorado, Oregon, North Dakota, Washington, Maryland, Minnesota, and New Hampshire.
