MCPD Daily Crime Summary For June 16 Includes Robbery, Multiple Auto Thefts, Hate/Bias Incidents, And Shooting

Montgomery County Police have released their daily crime summary for June 16, 2026, highlighting a variety of incidents reported across the county, including a strong-arm robbery, multiple vehicle thefts, commercial burglaries, hate/bias vandalism cases, and a shooting.

In the 2nd District, which covers Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Friendship Heights, Kensington, North Bethesda, Potomac and surrounding communities, a woman was robbed of her property inside a Metro parking garage in the 5500 block of Marinelli Road. Police said the suspect pushed the victim before fleeing but was located nearby and detained. A motorcycle was also reported stolen from the 6400 block of Rock Forest Drive, while another vehicle was stolen from a parking lot in the 5100 block of Pooks Hill Road. Tire thefts were reported at both locations.

In the 3rd District, which serves Silver Spring and Takoma Park, officers arrested a suspect following a commercial burglary at the Unique Thrift Store in the 10100 block of New Hampshire Avenue. According to police, the suspect climbed over an interior wall to access a secured office, put on stolen merchandise, fled the store and was later captured nearby.

The 4th District, which covers Wheaton, Aspen Hill, Glenmont and Olney, saw several incidents including a commercial burglary at a Mobil gas station in the 15400 block of Georgia Avenue, where a suspect forced entry through a rear wall and attempted to break into a secured area. Officers also responded to a residential burglary in the 1100 block of Georgia Avenue after an apartment door was found kicked in. It was unclear whether anything had been taken. Police also investigated a hate/bias vandalism incident in the 2900 block of Randolph Road after racist graffiti targeting a resident was spray-painted on a fence.

In the 5th District, which serves Germantown, Clarksburg, Damascus and surrounding communities, a man was shot in both legs near an apartment building in the 9800 block of Bethesda Church Road at approximately 10:33pm. Police said the victim and his brother were walking when a group approached and someone fired a shot. The victim was transported to a hospital with injuries reported as non-life-threatening. Additional incidents in the district included the theft of a catalytic converter from a vehicle in the 20300 block of Century Boulevard and a hate/bias vandalism case at Seneca Valley High School, where antisemitic graffiti was discovered in a school restroom.

In the 6th District, which covers Gaithersburg, Montgomery Village and nearby areas, police reported three vehicle thefts, including two in the 9700 block of Washingtonian Boulevard and one in the 7900 block of Spiceberry Court. Officers also recovered a stolen vehicle in the 100 block of Olde Towne Avenue after it was found nearby with a broken window.
