The Takoma Park Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred on Monday, June 22, in the 7100 block of Cedar Avenue.
According to a police press release from Tuesday afternoon, officers responded to the area around 6pm after initial reports indicated the incident had occurred at the Takoma Park Metro Station. The report prompted a response from both the Metropolitan Police Department and Metro Transit Police.
Investigators later determined that the shooting took place within the City of Takoma Park rather than at the Metro station. Takoma Park Police officers and detectives responded to the scene to investigate and collect evidence. During the investigation, authorities determined that two unoccupied vehicles parked nearby had been struck by gunfire. No injuries were reported.
Police say detectives have identified a 13-year-old male as the suspect in connection with the shooting and are in the process of obtaining criminal charges. The juvenile is currently in custody on unrelated charges.
The investigation remains active. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Takoma Park Police Department at 301-270-1100 and reference case #260027634.
