New Independent Bookstore The Brady Readery Now Open

A new independent bookstore has officially opened its doors in Laytonsville. The Brady Readery is now welcoming customers at 6860 Olney-Laytonsville Road, offering a selection of new and affordable used books, along with board games, educational children’s toys, and library-inspired décor.

According to the bookstore, The Brady Readery is a veteran and woman-owned small business created to serve as both a bookstore and a community gathering space. “Our mission is to provide a quality selection of new and affordable used books; personalized recommendations; consistent community interaction; and space to foster a love of reading in people of all ages,” the bookstore says on its website.

A major focus of the new business is expanding literacy opportunities for children in the Laytonsville area. Plans include twice-weekly Story and Craft Hours, field trips for nearby elementary schools featuring themed reading sessions tied to classroom lessons, and a children’s lending library that will allow each child to borrow up to two books for two weeks at no cost.

The owners say the lending library is especially meaningful because Laytonsville does not have a public library, with the goal of ensuring every child has access to books regardless of their family’s budget.

In addition to books available for purchase online, the store’s full inventory of new and used books, board games, educational toys, and décor is available in person. The Brady Readery is open every day except Tuesday from 10am to 7pm. For questions, the bookstore can be reached by text message at 240-389-3350.
