The Takoma Park Police Department is investigating a reported first-degree assault and malicious destruction of property that occurred at approximately 9:48pm on June 29 in the Walgreens parking lot in the 1300 block of University Boulevard.
According to police, the victim was standing outside his vehicle when he was approached by an unknown Hispanic male who became agitated during the encounter. After touching the victim’s shoulder and being told to stop, the suspect displayed a red folding pocketknife. Police said the suspect did not point the knife at the victim but continued following him until the victim got into his vehicle.
The victim then moved his vehicle to another area of the parking lot. Police say the suspect picked up rocks and threw them at the vehicle, damaging the front and rear driver’s side doors before fleeing on foot eastbound on University Boulevard toward Prince George’s County.
A lookout was broadcast to the Prince George’s County Police Department, and officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male who was last seen wearing a black hat, black sweater, gray shirt, and black pants.
The investigation remains active. Anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the suspect is asked to contact the Takoma Park Police Department at 301-270-1100 and reference case #260028722.
