Hotel Armed Robbery, Church Break-In, Airbag Theft Included in July 1st Crime Summary

MCPD shared an overview of reported calls for service from July 1, 2026 on social media.

In the 2nd District, which serves Bethesda and Chevy Chase, a theft from a vehicle was reported in the 2400 block of Lyttonsville Road after a window was broken and an airbag was stolen between 7pm Wednesday and 7am Thursday. Later that night, at approximately 10:05pm, officers arrested two people after an attempted commercial burglary at Bethesda Metro Center. Nothing was reported stolen.

In the 3rd District, which serves Silver Spring, a commercial burglary was reported at 11:30am Wednesday in the 11600 block of New Hampshire Avenue after someone broke into a church and stole equipment. Later, at approximately 6:40pm, a group assaulted two teenagers in a parking lot in the 13200 block of New Hampshire Avenue before stealing their belongings in a strong-arm robbery.

In the 6th District, which serves Gaithersburg and Montgomery Village, an armed robbery was reported at approximately 2:13am Thursday in the 800 block of Russell Avenue after several people forced their way into a hotel room. According to MCPD, one suspect pointed a handgun at the two occupants, and the group stole property before fleeing.

MCPD noted that this summary does not reflect all calls for service received on July 1.
