Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews responded to a working townhouse fire on Copperstone Court, off of Ritchie Pkwy, in Rockville that prompted a second alarm response after flames spread through the roof of an end-unit home.
According to MCFRS, firefighters launched an aggressive interior and exterior attack, quickly bringing the bulk of the fire under control and preventing it from spreading to neighboring homes.
According to MCFRS, both the primary and secondary searches of the home were negative, indicating no occupants were found inside. Fire officials said the fire appears to have been contained to the unit where it originated. Crews remain on scene conducting overhaul operations, checking for hidden fire extension, and extinguishing remaining hot spots.
MCFRS credited the coordinated efforts of responding firefighters for containing the fire under challenging conditions and protecting nearby properties. Residents are asked to avoid the area and follow directions from public safety personnel while crews continue their work.
