Multiple Auto Thefts, Burglaries And Weapons Incidents Reported in July 16 Crime Summary

The Montgomery County Department of Police shared the following overview of reported calls for service from July 16, 2026.

District 1, which covers Rockville, Potomac, and surrounding areas, responded to two commercial burglaries in the 5700 block of Fishers Lane, where two businesses were broken into overnight and property was stolen from one. A motorcycle was stolen from the 5500 block of Besley Court, and police also investigated a hate/bias incident in the 11500 block of Falls Road after a driver allegedly shouted antisemitic statements at a man walking home from a religious service.

District 2, which covers Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Kensington, and surrounding areas, reported an auto theft on Brewer House Road/Brewer House Circle, theft of tires from a vehicle in a parking garage on the 11300 block of Woodglen Drive, and four catalytic converter thefts in the 5000 block of Newport Avenue, 4400 block of Chalfont Place, 5400 block of Albemarle Street, and 5000 block of Greenway Drive.

District 3, which covers Silver Spring, Takoma Park, and surrounding areas, investigated three vehicle thefts in the 14100 block of Aldora Circle, 3300 block of Sir Thomas Drive, and 14700 block of McKnew Road. Police also responded to a residential burglary in the 600 block of East Randolph Road, where someone entered an apartment through a window and stole property. Officers also investigated an aggravated assault after a shoplifting suspect allegedly pointed a knife at a store employee in the 10100 block of New Hampshire Avenue, and a commercial burglary in the 600 block of Sligo Avenue after a business owner discovered a man inside the business after hours. The suspect fled with stolen property.

District 4, which covers Wheaton, Aspen Hill, and Glenmont, arrested a man on weapons charges after he allegedly fled from police while carrying a loaded handgun in the 2300 block of Randolph Road. Officers also responded to a weapons discharge in the 3100 block of Hewitt Avenue after a fight escalated and one person fired several rounds. No injuries were reported. Later, a man was arrested after allegedly pointing a shotgun at another man inside a home in the 4700 block of Iris Street and pulling the trigger, though the shotgun did not fire.

District 5, which covers Germantown, Clarksburg, Damascus, and surrounding areas, reported eight catalytic converter thefts in the 11200 block of Winding Brook Lane (two incidents), 19500 block of Scenery Drive (two incidents), 11100 block of Flanagan Lane, 11200 block of Valley Bend Drive (two incidents), and 19700 block of Mayercrest Way. Officers also investigated an overnight vehicle theft in the 12200 block of Elm Forest Court.

District 6, which covers Gaithersburg, Montgomery Village, North Potomac, and surrounding areas, responded to an attempted armed robbery in the 100 block of Woodland Road after a man allegedly demanded bicycles and a phone from a group of young people while threatening to stab one of them. The suspect fled when a witness intervened.
