One person was killed and several juveniles were injured following a two-vehicle collision Tuesday morning at the intersection of Great Seneca Highway and Clopper Road in Germantown.
According to Montgomery County Police, 5th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service personnel responded to the intersection at approximately 5:25 a.m. for a reported serious collision. Responding officers found a white Kia Optima and a blue Toyota Matrix with extensive damage. The driver of the Toyota Matrix was pronounced dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation determined that the white Kia Optima, which had been reported stolen from a Montgomery County residence several hours before the collision, entered the intersection and struck the Toyota Matrix, which was traveling on Clopper Road.
Police said the Kia was occupied by juveniles between the ages of 12 and 15. The juvenile driver was transported to an area hospital in critical but stable condition, while the remaining juvenile occupants suffered injuries of varying severity and were taken to several area trauma centers.
The circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation. Police have not yet released the identity of the person who died pending notification of next of kin. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
