The Washington Commanders are bringing one of the area’s biggest football stars back home, signing Gaithersburg native and University of Maryland standout Stefon Diggs. The move gives quarterback Jayden Daniels another proven weapon alongside Terry McLaurin as Washington continues to bolster its offense. Nicki Jhabvala reports the deal is for one year and worth up to $12 million.
Diggs, a four-time Pro Bowler, is coming off a Super Bowl appearance with the New England Patriots. Despite returning from a torn ACL suffered in 2024, he bounced back with 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns last season as New England advanced to the Super Bowl before falling to the Seattle Seahawks.
Over his NFL career, Diggs has totaled 942 receptions for 11,504 yards while playing for the Minnesota Vikings, Buffalo Bills, Houston Texans and New England Patriots.
Before becoming one of the NFL’s premier receivers, Diggs starred at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Olney, where he established himself as one of the nation’s top recruits. He stayed close to home for college, playing at the University of Maryland before being selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
