Updated at 8:25am: A two-vehicle collision in the Damascus/Germantown area Saturday morning has left one person dead and five others hospitalized, according to Montgomery County officials.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews responded to the 24000 block of Ridge Road near Hawkes Road and Cedar Grove Elementary School for a crash involving two vehicles. Initial reports indicated possible entrapment and multiple trauma patients.
Officials later confirmed that five patients were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. All five were traveling in the same vehicle. Their ages have not been released at this time.
The lone occupant of the second vehicle, an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The collision is being investigated as a fatal crash, and the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit has been notified. Drivers are being asked to seek an alternate route while the investigation continues.
Police said a summary of events will be released when additional information becomes available.
