Washington Commanders defensive end Dorance Armstrong has been suspended without pay for the first game of the 2026 regular season for violating the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy (specific reason not provided). Commanders reporter Ben Standig shared that “the issue leading to the suspension occurred last season”, but that he’s unaware of specific details.
According to the NFL, Armstrong is eligible to participate in all preseason activities, including games. His suspension will begin August 30, and he will be eligible for reinstatement on Monday, September 14.
The suspension comes shortly after Armstrong was activated from the Active/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list as he continues his return from the significant knee injury he suffered last season. Armstrong tore his ACL during Washington’s Week 7 game against the Dallas Cowboys, ending his 2025 season. At the time of the injury, he led the Commanders with 5.5 sacks.
In Washington’s first unofficial depth chart of the preseason, released earlier this week, Armstrong was listed behind offseason free agent addition K’Lavon Chaisson at defensive end and now faces a different setback as he prepares for his return to the field. Armstrong will be eligible to return following Washington’s regular season opener.
