Five Auto Thefts, Two Stolen Airbags and Gunfire at Long Branch Park Included in August 20th Crime Summary

MCPD shared an overview of reported calls for service from August 20, 2026. The summary does not reflect every call for service on the referenced date.

In the 1st District, which includes Rockville and Potomac, two vehicles were reported stolen. The thefts occurred in the 7700 block of Hiawatha Ln. between 3:30pm Wednesday and 11:30am Thursday, and in the 11500 block of Georgetowne Dr. between 8am and 2pm Thursday.

In the 2nd District, which includes Bethesda, Chevy Chase and parts of Potomac, a suspect allegedly claimed to have a gun while attempting to take property from a convenience store in the 4800 block of Boiling Brook Pkwy. at approximately 9:37pm Thursday. One person was arrested.

In the 3rd District, which includes Silver Spring, two vehicle airbags were reported stolen. The thefts occurred in the 11200 block of Oak Leaf Dr. between 8pm Wednesday and 5:30am Thursday, and in the 1500 block of Dilston Rd. between Thursday and 8:28am Friday. Police also responded to Long Branch Park at approximately 10:55pm Thursday after multiple people reported hearing gunshots. Officers recovered shell casings.

In the 4th District, which includes Wheaton, Olney, Aspen Hill and Brookeville, two vehicles were reported stolen. The thefts occurred in the 2200 block of Georgian Woods Pl. between 1pm Wednesday and 11:30am Thursday, and in the 14900 block of McKisson Ct. between 5pm Wednesday and 11:30am Thursday.

In the 6th District, which includes Gaithersburg and Montgomery Village, a vehicle was reported stolen from the 17700 block of Larchmont Ter. between 8pm Wednesday and 7am Thursday.
