Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) has welcomed Dr. Shakira Munden as its new Program Manager of Organizational Development, Culture and Inclusivity in the Office of the Fire Chief.
MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer announced the appointment on Monday, August 24, welcoming Munden as the newest member of the department’s team.
Munden brings more than 15 years of experience leading organizational development, culture and equity initiatives across government, nonprofit organizations, public media, philanthropy and academia. In her new position, she will work to advance workplace culture, leadership effectiveness, community engagement and organizational accountability.
Her previous roles include diversity, equity and inclusion and workforce culture leadership at the Federal Reserve Board, serving as the inaugural Director of DEI at WETA/PBS NewsHour and holding a senior leadership position at the American Institutes for Research. She also worked in public-sector strategy for James City County, Virginia, where she led a U.S. Department of Justice gender-based violence prevention initiative.
Munden is an MCPS graduate and holds a Doctor of Education degree from Northeastern University, a Master of Public Administration from Regent University and a Bachelor of Arts from Hampton University. She is also a published author whose work focuses on thriving communities, public safety, justice and equitable representation.
Additionally, Munden serves as Executive Chair of the Board for New Endeavors by Women and President of the Dulles Chapter of the National Hampton Alumni Association. Her first day with MCFRS was August 24.
