Permanent Signage Up at Upcoming Playa Bowls Location

Permanent signage is now up for Playa Bowls’ upcoming Potomac Village location, another sign that the açai and smoothie bowl chain is moving closer to opening.

Playa Bowls is taking over the former Sprinkles space at 10148 River Rd in Potomac. The location had initially been expected to open by the end of the summer, but that timeline has passed. The store is now expected to open by the end of the year.

Sprinkles permanently closed at the end of June after nearly four decades in Potomac Village. The longtime ice cream shop had operated in the community since 1989.

Ahead of its closure, Sprinkles announced that its landlord had already secured Playa Bowls as the space’s next tenant. Sprinkles cited rising costs and declining business conditions in its decision to close, saying it had explored ways to remain open before determining the business was no longer sustainable. The shop had been known for small-batch ice cream, handmade cookies, smoothies, candies, pies, donuts, cakes and party supplies.

Playa Bowls specializes in customizable bowls and smoothies featuring bases such as açai, pitaya, coconut and banana, along with juices, coffees and other items.
