The closure of Redland Road for construction of a new bridge over Mill Creek has been extended again, this time through Monday, October 19, according to the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT).
The road has been closed since June 19 as crews reconstruct the Mill Creek bridge and complete utility relocation work. The closure was originally expected to remain in place through August 24, with the roadway scheduled to reopen ahead of the start of the new school year.
The reopening was later pushed back to October 11. MCDOT now says a construction delay will keep Redland Road closed until October 19.
The closure extends from approximately 500 feet north of Briardale Drive to 500 feet south of Overhill Road.
The extended closure will continue to impact MCDOT Ride On routes 53 and 57, with buses remaining on detour and multiple stops along Redland Road and Muncaster Mill Road being bypassed.
Route 53 buses traveling toward Glenmont will use Shady Grove Road and Muncaster Mill Road before returning to the regular route. In the opposite direction toward Shady Grove East, buses will remain on Muncaster Mill Road before turning onto Shady Grove Road and continuing to the Metro station.
Route 57 buses traveling toward Lakeforest will use Crabbs Branch Way, Shady Grove Road and Muncaster Mill Road before returning to the regular route. Buses traveling toward Shady Grove West will use Shady Grove Road and Crabbs Branch Way before returning to Redland Road.
County officials have previously asked drivers to follow the posted detour and avoid using Briardale Drive or Tupelo Drive as cut-through routes through nearby neighborhoods.
Once Redland Road reopens, remaining work is expected to be completed under temporary lane closures.
