Business Insider has named Baltimore’s PaperMoon Diner the most famous diner in Maryland as part of an editorial feature highlighting a diner from each state. The list is an unranked editorial selection rather than a reader poll, formal award, or data-based ranking.
Business Insider highlighted PaperMoon for its unusual atmosphere and comfort-food menu, describing the Baltimore landmark as standing out for its “whimsical, art-filled interior and eclectic decor.” The publication also pointed to the restaurant’s colorful, surreal setting as part of what has made it one of Baltimore’s most distinctive dining destinations.
Located in Baltimore’s Charles Village neighborhood, PaperMoon Diner is known as much for its appearance as its food. The restaurant is packed from floor to ceiling with vintage toys, dolls, neon signs, oversized figures, and an assortment of pop-culture memorabilia.
The menu centers on classic diner comfort food, including all-day breakfast dishes, burgers and milkshakes, along with a variety of vegetarian and vegan options.
PaperMoon Diner opened in 1994, when owner Un Kim transformed an existing neighborhood diner space with the help of local artist David Briskie. Over the three decades since, its toy-filled, kitschy aesthetic has helped make it a recognizable Baltimore landmark and a popular destination for locals and visitors alike.
