MUI Supper Club is preparing to officially open at Pike & Rose in North Bethesda on Wednesday, November 4, and we got a first look inside during one of the restaurant’s friends and family events ahead of the opening. A first-lookfirst-look can be seen below.
The restaurant is currently holding a series of friends and family events as part of staff training and final preparations. Food was offered at discounted prices to those in attendance. Our first-look video shows the restaurant, atmosphere and a variety of dishes, including the Whole Branzino, Creamy Cedar Salmon and several other selections from the menu.
Located at 967 Rose Ave., MUI has taken over the large space previously occupied by The Block food hall, which closed in 2024. The new supper club centers its menu around Japanese-inspired cuisine, A5 wagyu, sushi and sashimi, omakase, robata grilling and larger-format dishes.
The menu begins with a sizable selection of dishes designed for sharing, including Japanese Milk Bread with nori and miso butter, Smoked Wagyu Gyoza with mushroom XO, Wagyu Carpaccio, Zucchini & Eggplant Chips, Crispy Brussels Sprouts, Charred Broccolini and Sweet Corn with brown butter curry and garlic.
MUI also offers an extensive raw bar and sushi selection. Crudo options include salmon with Thai basil and coconut milk, madai with Asian pear, lemon and amazu, yellowtail with cherry tomato, orange, garlic and ponzu, and Hokkaido scallop with ume dashi, shiso and quinoa. Maki selections include Yellowtail, Smoked Salmon, Soft Shell Crab, Spicy Tuna and Gyu rolls, along with a variety of nigiri, sashimi and handrolls.
Among the larger Chef Specials are Black Cod with miso glaze, corn and peas; Pork Belly with ginger citrus, kale, apple and watermelon radish; Whole Branzino with crispy skin and fennel brown butter; and Creamy Cedar Salmon with fennel cream, grilled fennel and salmon roe.
Other higher-end offerings include A5 Japanese and Australian wagyu, a 44-ounce Aged Prime Tomahawk, Lobster Uni Pasta and clay pots available with yellowtail, branzino or gyu. MUI will also offer omakase experiences, caviar and uni, and a rotating selection of fish sourced through Toyosu Market.
Robata selections include pork belly, chicken thigh, mushroom, beef and gyu, while the tempura section features tiger prawn, wild mushroom, chicken karaage and kabocha. Desserts include cake, sorbet, shaved ice and fruit.
MUI is also introducing a limited annual membership program designed around priority access and exclusive dining experiences. The $1,000 Prestige tier is limited to 100 members and includes benefits such as direct messaging with the MUI team, a $1 cocktail from a curated menu during each visit and early access opportunities.
The $2,000 VIP Club is limited to 50 members and includes a bottle of premium champagne, a complimentary first drink during each visit, an omakase dinner for two, 48-hour priority reservations, access to off-menu dishes and seasonal members-only evenings.
The highest level, the $5,000 Founders Club, is limited to 20 members. Benefits include $1,000 in premium champagne, an omakase dinner for six, quarterly private chef’s table experiences, Founder Wall recognition, a dedicated concierge, a direct line to management and first access to events.
MUI describes the membership program as less of a traditional loyalty program and more of a way to provide a limited number of guests with preferred access to the restaurant, including reservations, omakase experiences and private chef’s table evenings.
The restaurant has been in the works for months, with permanent signage recently installed at the former Block space. MUI says its concept combines traditional Japanese techniques with modern presentations and a more theatrical style of dining.
MUI Supper Club officially opens Wednesday, November 4 at 967 Rose Ave. at Pike & Rose in North Bethesda. The restaurant plans to operate Tuesday through Saturday from 6pm-11pm and will be closed Sundays and Mondays.
