Mykonos Grill, the beloved Greek restaurant located at 121 Congressional Lane in Rockville, is closing permanently after nearly 30 years in business. The longtime restaurant, located just off Rockville Pike, has been a staple of the local dining scene for decades, earning a loyal following for its authentic Greek cuisine and distinctive atmosphere.
For nearly three decades, stepping inside Mykonos felt like taking a trip to the Greek Isles. The restaurant became known for its white plaster walls accented by vibrant blue trim and hand-painted murals depicting traditional Greek village scenery. The interior, which remained largely unchanged over the years, helped make Mykonos one of the area’s most recognizable dining destinations.
Most recently owned and operated by Angelo Mitsotakis and his wife, Rodi Tzani, Mykonos also developed a reputation for its longtime employees. According to the Tasting Bites blog, some members of the restaurant’s kitchen and dining room staff remained with the business throughout its nearly 30-year history.
The restaurant was widely regarded as a destination for traditional Greek comfort food, with longtime favorites including moussaka, lamb shanks, fresh whole fish, saganaki, and house-made spreads. Its combination of authentic dishes, familiar faces, and welcoming atmosphere made it a favorite for generations of local diners.
While the Congressional Lane restaurant is closing, much of what made Mykonos a longtime favorite is expected to continue nearby. We’ve been told that much of the restaurant’s menu and kitchen staff will be moving to the new Mykonos Restaurant at Cabin John Village in Potomac, which opened in June 2025.
The move will allow longtime customers to continue enjoying many of the familiar dishes prepared by members of the team they’ve come to know over the years, even as the restaurant’s nearly three-decade run in Rockville comes to an end.
