Police Respond to Shooting and Firearm Seizure in Separate October 14 Incidents

District 3 Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) Commander Jason Cokinos announced on Twitter/X that on October 14, 2024, Silver Spring experienced two weapons-related incidents: a shooting during an argument on Darrow Street where no one was injured, and a separate incident where officers seized a fully loaded modified Glock and arrested a suspect following a traffic stop on Automobile Boulevard.

Cokinos tweeted, “Silver Spring (2) weapons incidents 📰

At 8:53 PM @mcpnews 3rd District officers responded to the 2300 Block of Darrow Street for a shooting. Fortunately, no one was shot. An argument between known subjects took place where one shot was fired. This was not random and is currently under investigation by detectives.

Unrelated to the above incident:

At 11:17 PM @mcpnews plain clothes officers observed suspicious activity in the 3200 Block of Automobile Boulevard.

A traffic stop was conducted where the subject unsuccessfully attempted to flee. A fully loaded Glock .45 caliber handgun with an illegal switch to allow the gun to fire fully automatic was seized. The adult was transported to central processing and booked.

We will continue to relentlessly pursue illegal firearms to get them out of the hands of criminals and off our streets!”
