The Washington Commanders beat the Tennessee Titans 42-19 on Sunday, getting back on track after a three game losing streak. The Commanders are now 8-5 and would be in the playoffs if they were to start today. Next week is their bye with the New Orleans up next after that. Four games remain in the season, but before we get to those games let’s take a look at some amazing facts from today’s game:
• Running back Brian Robinson Jr. rushed for the longest touchdown of his career, a 40-yard score. It was the 20th touchdown of his career and the eighth rushing touchdown of the season. He has the most rushing touchdowns in franchise history through 13 weeks since RB Antonio Gibson (11 in 2020). Robinson joined John Riggins, Terry Allen, Stephen Davis, George Rogers, Antonio Gibson, Gerald Riggs, Rob Goode and Larry Brown as the only players in franchise history to record eight-plus rushing touchdown through Week 13.
• Linebacker Bobby Wagner recorded his 100th tackle of the season. It’s his 13th straight season with at least 100 tackles and he joins LB and Washington-great London Fletcher as the only other player to record 100+ tackles in at least 13 straight seasons in NFL history.
• Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels rushed for his sixth touchdown this season. He now has sole possession for the second most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in a single season in franchise history, behind Robert Griffin III who rushed for 7 touchdowns as a rookie in 2012. Daniels has rushed for a touchdown in back-to-back games for the second time this season.
• Robinson’s 40 yard touchdown run is the longest by a Washington player since Steven Sims’ 65 yard touchdown rush in Week 5 of the 2019 season. It is the longest by a Washington running back since Adrian Peterson in Week 13 of the 2018 season.
• Wide Receiver Terry McLaurin has his ninth touchdown this season. McLaurin (34) has now passed TE Chris Cooley (33) and has moved into sole possession of No. 9 in franchise history in touchdown receptions. He joins Jerry Smith, Hugh Taylor, Bobby Mitchell, Pat Richter, Ricky Sanders and Charley Taylor as the only players in franchise history to record nine-plus touchdown receptions through Week 13 in a single season. McLaurin now has four career-games with two or more touchdowns, three of them coming this season.
• Washington has scored at least 21 points in the first quarter for the first time since Week 17 of the 2015 season and scored 28 first half points for the first time since Week 3 of the 2018 season. Per @EliasSports Washington’s plus-21 point differential in the first quarter was their most in a single quarter since posting a 21-plus point differential against Dallas in the fourth quarter of their Week 12 game in 2020.
• Linebackers Frankie Luvu and Dante Fowler Jr. have both posted nine-plus sacks so far this season. It is the first time that Washington has two players with nine-plus sacks in a single season since Ryan Kerrigan and Trent Murphy in 2016.
• Tight End Zach Ertz recorded his 50th career touchdown reception and moved into a tie with Kyle Rudolph and Ben Coates for No. 14 all-time in receiving touchdowns by a tight end in NFL history. Ertz becomes one-of-six tight ends in NFL history to record 750-plus receptions and 50-plus touchdown receptions in a career, joining Tony Gonzalez, Jason Witten, Travis Kelce, Antonio Gates and Shannon Sharpe. Ertz has recorded a touchdown reception in three consecutive games. It is the first time he has scored a touchdown in three straight games since scoring in four straight contests from Weeks 5-8 in 2017.
• Washington has eclipsed 30 points for the fifth time this season, their most 30-plus point games in a single season since 2015 and their most through 13 weeks since 2012.
• Washington recorded 267 net rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. This was the third time since the 1970 NFL merger that Washington registered 250-plus rushing yards and three-plus rushing touchdowns in a single game. The other two instances were in Week 17 of the 2012 season against Dallas and Week 9 of the 1985 season against Atlanta.
