TGI Fridays Has Closed Permanently

Management from TGI Fridays in Frederick has confirmed to us that the Rockville location at 12147 Rockville Pike, in the Pike Center, has closed permanently. The only other Montgomery County location at 12281 Tech Rd. in the White Oak area remains open (as does the Frederick location that confirmed the permanent closure).

TGI Fridays is a restaurant chain that experienced its peak popularity during the 1990s, becoming well-known for its vibrant atmosphere, a menu that included a mix of American cuisine, a lively bar scene, and plenty of “flair.” In the 90s and early 2000s, the Rockville location battled it out with nearby Ruby Tuesday’s and Bennigan’s as three of the busiest restaurants on the Pike.

Last January (2024), TGI Fridays announced that it would close 36 underperforming locations in select markets across the U.S., which included six stores in/around the DMV area. At the time, the two Montgomery County locations in Rockville and White Oak/Fairland remained open. In November 2024, TGI Fridays filed for bankruptcy while stating that all 39 locations would remain open and continue operating as usual. Other locations, more than 150 in the U.S. and others internationally, owned by TGI Fridays Franchisor LLC, would also remain open at that time.

The news of the temporary closure and speculation of the closure being permanent was shared by @pike.and.rozay via @moconights on Instagram, and the permanent closure was confirmed by our team on Monday evening when we spoke with employees and management at both the White Oak and Frederick locations, with management at Frederick confirming. The restaurant is listed as “temporary closed” on Google and remains on the company website, but lists all days as “closed.”
