Police Investigate Strong Arm Robbery, Victim’s Purse Stolen After She Declined Request For Spare Change

On April 2, at approximately 8:50 am, Takoma Park Police responded to the 1100 block of University Blvd. for the report of a strong-arm robbery.

According to police, “The victim was seated in her parked vehicle when the suspect approached and asked if she had change. She declined. The suspect then walked around the victim’s vehicle to the front passenger door, opened the unlocked door, and grabbed the victim’s purse. The victim attempted to hold on to the purse, but the strap broke.

The suspect fled southbound on the 7600 block of New Hampshire Avenue in a red Toyota RAV4 with unknown registration plates.  The vehicle had a decal reading “Jamal” on the rear windshield.  The suspect was described as a Black male with a slim build, last seen wearing a black mask and black sweater.

A canvass of the area revealed the discovery of a black purse in the roadway of the 7100 block of New Hampshire Avenue. However, the suspect was not located. A broadcast was issued to surrounding jurisdictions.  The recovered purse was returned to the victim, but the contents of the purse were missing.”
