Luis Davila-Marerro, 42, was sentenced in Montgomery County Circuit Court to 35 years in prison for kidnapping, carjacking, and robbery following a 2024 incident involving a taxi driver and her son, with the sentence to run consecutively to a prior 10-year term for burglary and probation violations.
According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, “The 35-year sentence stems from an incident that occurred on July 6, 2024, at approximately 9:00 p.m. A woman who worked for a taxi service for Spanish speaking individuals received a call from the defendant, whom she had driven several times in the past. They had exchanged contact information and this time, instead of going through the business, he contacted her directly. The defendant stated he needed a ride, so they arranged a pickup location in the 18000 block of Contour Road in Montgomery Village. The victim had her 12-year-old son in the car.
Once inside the vehicle, Davila-Marerro began directing the victim where to drive. They drove for several hours, into Howard County and then back to Montgomery Village, while the defendant threatened the victim and her son, demanding any cash they had and their cell phones. The victim only had a few dollars in cash, but the defendant accessed a bank app on her cell phone and transferred $480.00 from her account to himself. He spoke on the phone with someone, asking what he should do with the victim and her son. The victim and her son were afraid for their lives. The defendant exited the vehicle at approximately 1:00a.m. in Montgomery Village.
Assistant State’s Attorneys Peter Larson and Caitlin Murphy prosecuted this case.
“This predator has shown an escalation of violence, repeatedly targeting women in our community. We thank the judge for issuing an appropriate sentence and taking into consideration the defendant’s extensive criminal history,” said State’s Attorney John McCarthy.”
