Walnut Hill Barber Shop To Close After 58 Years

After serving the Gaithersburg community for nearly six decades, Walnut Hill Barber Shop is closing its doors for good this Saturday, August 30th. The beloved shop, located at 16527 S Frederick Ave., has been a staple for generations of local families.

To celebrate its rich history and say goodbye to loyal customers, the shop will hold a farewell gathering on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Barbers Hong, Kim, Phil, and Julie will all be there to share memories and thank the community for its support.

The shop has been a fixture in the lives of many, including local resident Tim Harwood, who has been getting his haircut there for most of his life. “I’ve been going to the shop nearly my whole life,” Harwood said. “My dad has been going since he moved to Gaithersburg in 1990.” While the shop is closing, two of its barbers will be moving on to a new location. Kim and Julie will continue their work at Ann’s Barber in the Potomac Village Shopping Center.

The space at the Walnut Hill Center won’t be empty for long. According to the leasing site for the center, Inspire Nail Bar will be opening a new location in the barber shop’s former space. Earlier this month, Chipotle signed on to open a new location in the shopping center in the near future.
