Teenager Seriously Injured in Pedestrian Collision That Shuts Down Georgia Avenue Sunday Evening

A serious crash shut down a portion of Georgia Avenue Sunday evening after a pedestrian was struck near the Forest Glen and Wheaton area, according to Montgomery County authorities.

Montgomery County Police reported at 6:41pm that southbound Georgia Avenue was closed between Plyers Mill Road and Evans Drive due to a traffic collision. Drivers were advised to seek alternate routes and expect significant delays.

A few minutes later, Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Services (MCFRS) chief spokesperson Pete Piringer shared that the collision, reported around 6:15pm near Georgia Avenue and Evans Drive, involved a pedestrian. He confirmed that a teenager was transported as a Priority 1 trauma patient by MCFRS Emergency Medical and Integrated Health Services (EMIHS).

At 6:53 p.m., Alert Montgomery issued a Severe Traffic Alert, stating that all lanes of MD-97 (Georgia Avenue) were closed from Dennis Avenue to Plyers Mill Road, urging drivers to avoid the area and expect extended delays.

As of 7:05 Sunday night, the full condition of the pedestrian and further details about the crash had not been released.
