Montgomery Village Sees 13.8% Drop in Overall Crime, Police Report

Montgomery Village has seen a notable 13.8% decrease in overall crime in 2025, according to Montgomery County Police 6th District Commander Brian Dillman, who shared the update at the Montgomery Village Foundation’s recent Public Safety Town Hall.

Dillman said most major crime categories are trending in the right direction, with the only uptick coming in motor vehicle thefts, which rose by 10 incidents compared to last year. He also pointed out that non-fatal shootings decreased and attributed the trend to a larger number of arrests of individuals for unlicensed firearms. He credited ongoing community partnerships, targeted patrols, and improved technology for the broader decline.

Among the most significant local success stories is the dramatic turnaround at Cider Mill Apartments, according to Dillman, where coordinated efforts between police, Councilmember Dawn Luedtke, and property management have led to an 85% reduction in violent crime.

The commander also highlighted the impact of the department’s new Drone as a First Responder (DFR) program, launched in July 2024. Since then, the drone has responded to 776 calls, with 115 of those eliminating the need for an officer to drive to the scene, allowing for quicker assessments and more efficient use of staff and resources.

While Montgomery Village remains one of the county’s most densely populated areas, Dillman said the community continues to trend alongside similar jurisdictions such as Clarksburg and Olney when comparing types of incidents. “The Village’s density means we see more calls per square mile, but the trends show we’re moving in a positive direction,” he noted.
