After spending years as a mostly empty parking lot, Burtonsville Crossing has undergone one of the most dramatic commercial transformations in Montgomery County. What was once a largely vacant property just a few years ago is now a thriving retail and dining destination, thanks to a wave of new openings and ongoing redevelopment.
The turnaround began with the January 2024 debut of Montgomery County’s first Sprouts Market, a milestone that set the tone for what would follow. Since then, the center has filled rapidly with new businesses spanning fitness, dining, retail, and services.
Domain Fitness and Performance, a 32,130-square-foot, state-of-the-art training facility, opened over the summer and quickly became one of the anchors of the redevelopment.
In April 2025, the shopping center welcomed what might be its biggest dining draw yet: PhoWheels. The popular local brand’s arrival has added a major boost to the center, helping cement Burtonsville Crossing as a true food destination.
The dining scene doesn’t end there with a blend of local, regional, and national brands including a drive-thru Chipotle that opened in March 2024, followed by Isaac’s Poultry Market’s second location in February, Moby Dick’s Burtonsville opening in June 2024, and an Eggspectation that marked the brand’s return to Montgomery County when it opened in June 2025. Playa Bowls added a Burtonsville Crossing shop in March 2025.
The retail offerings have expanded as well. TJ Maxx welcomed shoppers in March 2024, while Ulta Beauty opened its Burtonsville location in July 2024. The center also added a new PNC Bank and Allure Nail Bar, with Dentologie Burtonsville now nearing its official opening.
Even the lone original tenant, Burger King, is getting a fresh start, currently undergoing a major renovation with plans to reopen in the coming months. Looking ahead, the momentum continues. Haraz Coffee House is expected to join the lineup in the first half of 2026.
After years of inactivity, Burtonsville Crossing has completely reshaped its identity, emerging as one of the area’s most successful and talked-about redevelopments.
