2-Alarm Fire Reported on 15th Floor of Highland House; Southbound Wisconsin Avenue Remains Closed

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded late Monday morning to a high-rise fire at the Highland House apartments, located at 5480 Wisconsin Avenue in Friendship Heights. MCFRS initially reported heavy smoke on the 15th floor, confirming an active fire inside an apartment as crews worked to bring the blaze under control.

At 12:05pm, Montgomery County Police announced that southbound Wisconsin Avenue is closed at South Park Avenue due to the ongoing fire rescue activity. Drivers are being urged to seek alternate routes and expect significant delays as emergency crews continue operations.

At 12:08pm, MCFRS provided an update indicating that units are now operating on a second alarm and that the fire is believed to be out. Firefighters are currently clearing adjacent apartments and floors to ensure there is no additional fire spread and to ventilate remaining smoke conditions.
