Montgomery County Actress Maggie Toomey Lands Key Supporting Role in How To Make a Killing

Laytonsville native Maggie Toomey is appearing in the newly released feature film How to Make a Killing, which debuted last weekend starring Glen Powell and Margaret Qualley.

The dark comedy follows Becket Redfellow, played by Powell, a blue-collar man disowned at birth by his obscenely wealthy family who is determined to reclaim his inheritance, no matter how many relatives stand in his way. Qualley stars as Julia, the film’s female lead.

Maggie plays young Julia, a key supporting role that helps establish the emotional core of the story. Her character is the childhood friend and early crush of Becket Redfellow, portrayed as a child by Grady Wilson before Powell assumes the role in adulthood. Maggie’s performance anchors the early relationship between the two leads and provides important context for the motivations that drive the film forward.

Maggie is the daughter of Laytonsville-based acting coach Katie Killacky, founder of Capital Coaching Studio, who has taught acting from her Montgomery County home for nearly a decade. Killacky was first featured in 2022 for her work as an actress and coach, and now both of her daughters are building notable careers in film and television.

In addition to How to Make a Killing, Maggie recently guest starred on Law & Order: Organized Crime, which aired Thursday night at 10pm on NBC. She is also set to appear in the upcoming feature film The Breadwinner, starring Nate Bargatze and Colin Jost.

Her sister, Annabelle Toomey, is also having a busy year. Annabelle will guest star in four episodes of HBO’s The Pitt beginning this January and previously appeared in Season 4 of FX’s The Bear as Eva, Richie’s daughter.

Together, Maggie and Annabelle will appear in recurring roles on Mayor of Kingstown, which returns October 26 on Paramount Plus. Both sisters are also part of the cast of Long Bright River, an upcoming project headed to FX and Hulu.
