Person Struck by Train at Wheaton Metro Station Tuesday Morning

Emergency crews are responding Tuesday morning after a person was reportedly struck by a train at the Wheaton Metro Station.

According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the incident was reported at 7:48am at the Wheaton Metro Station East entrance located at 11171 Georgia Avenue in Wheaton. Initial reports indicate a person was struck by a train and may be trapped underneath.

MCFRS special operations teams and Battalion 4 units responded to the scene and are working alongside Metro personnel to assess the situation, ensure responder safety, and attempt rescue operations.

Officials say the incident will likely cause delays in the surrounding area and disruptions to Metro service while crews work at the station. The public is being asked to avoid the area and allow emergency personnel the space they need to operate safely.

MCFRS also issued a reminder for passengers to remain alert around train platforms and tracks, stay behind platform warning lines, follow posted signage, and never attempt to access restricted areas.

Additional updates are expected as the situation develops.
