Jarrad Silver, the chef and owner behind Silver and Sons BBQ in Bethesda, has been named a semifinalist for “Rising Culinary Star of the Year” at this year’s RAMMY Awards, one of the Washington region’s most respected honors in the restaurant industry.
Silver opened Silver and Sons BBQ last year at 5362 Westbard Ave, bringing a unique concept to Montgomery County that blends traditional American barbecue with Jewish and Mediterranean influences. The restaurant builds on the success of his Silver and Sons food truck, which has been operating across the D.C. area since 2020.
Silver and Sons has quickly carved out a distinct identity, offering what is described as a Jewish-Mediterranean twist on regional American barbecue. The menu reflects Silver’s culinary perspective, combining smoked meats with flavors and techniques inspired by Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine.
Before launching his own concept, Silver held several prominent roles in the D.C. dining scene. He served as executive chef for Neighborhood Restaurant Group, where he oversaw the kitchens at Birch and Barley and ChurchKey. During that time, he developed his signature style, focusing on seasonal ingredients, local sourcing, and the blending of cultural influences.
He also spent seven years with Mike Isabella Concepts as executive chef, contributing to the opening of eight restaurants and helping shape menus across multiple concepts.
Silver’s connection to food began early, growing up in Bethesda. He credits his father and grandmother with sparking his interest in cooking, from watching meals come together at home to helping bake fresh bread during visits to Connecticut. Both households maintained vegetable gardens, helping foster an appreciation for fresh ingredients that continues to influence his cooking today.
His recognition as a RAMMY Awards semifinalist highlights both his individual talent and the early success of Silver and Sons BBQ, which has quickly become a notable addition to the local dining scene.
