Sweet Bamboo Boba is opening its new Downtown Silver Spring location this weekend, bringing its unique DIY bubble tea concept to Montgomery County.
The shop debuts with a soft opening beginning today (Friday, April 17), at 8030 Georgia Ave., taking over the space that was home to Moorenko’s for nearly 25 years. The opening may extend throughout the weekend as the team puts final touches on the space.
Sweet Bamboo Boba first launched in Severna Park in 2023 and has gained attention for being Maryland’s first do-it-yourself bubble tea bar. The concept allows customers to act as their own “boba baristas,” customizing drinks from start to finish.
Guests can choose from a wide selection of tea bases, syrups, and toppings, with the ability to adjust sweetness levels and ice preferences. Customers are also able to sample base drinks before finalizing their order. A single price includes all toppings, ranging from classic tapioca pearls to popping boba, jellies, and red beans.
In addition to its customizable drinks, the shop offers a variety of pre-designed menu items, including Brown Sugar Milk Tea, Mango Slush, Matcha Kit Kat, and several taro-based drinks. Coffee-based options and specialty blends like Thai milk tea combinations are also available.
Beyond beverages, the Silver Spring location features a menu of bakery items such as pastries, cakes, bubble waffles, and filled donuts, with some gluten-free options.
The shop is also aiming to create a lively, community-focused atmosphere, with games and a social environment designed to make it a go-to hangout spot in Downtown Silver Spring.
