A 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at a Safeway in Wheaton.
Montgomery County Police say Jose Marvin Rodriguez is charged following an incident that occurred on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at the store in the 11200 block of Georgia Avenue.
At approximately 8am, officers assigned to the 4th District Central Business Team responded to the location for a reported assault. When they arrived, they spoke with a loss prevention officer who said he observed Rodriguez concealing food items and passing all points of sale without paying.
The employee attempted to stop Rodriguez outside the store, at which point Rodriguez allegedly pulled out a folding knife and threatened him, warning him not to come any closer before leaving the area.
Officers were provided with a description of the suspect, and a Central Business Team officer located Rodriguez nearby a short time later and took him into custody without further incident.
Rodriguez was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he has been charged with armed robbery, first-degree assault, and theft less than $100.
