Elbe’s Beer and Wine at 2522 University Blvd in Wheaton is celebrating a major milestone in May, marking 75 years in business serving the Wheaton community and Montgomery County.
The longtime, family-run retailer traces its roots back to 1951, when Willie and Miriam Bobrow first opened the store as a neighborhood grocery. Today, it continues to operate under family ownership, now managed by their sons, Andy and Jeff, maintaining its reputation as a local staple for beer and wine.
To celebrate the 75th anniversary, Elbe’s is hosting a special one-day event on May 15, 2026, featuring free giveaways throughout the day and prize drawings for customers. The store is also offering $1.75 off any case of beer or bottle of wine during the celebration, highlighting the milestone with a nod to its 75 years in business. The event reflects both a look back at the store’s history and a thank you to the community that has supported it for more than seven decades.
Owners say their commitment to expanding inventory while maintaining a neighborhood feel has helped sustain the business across generations, as they continue to serve both longtime customers and new visitors.
