Weis Buys Clarksburg Town Center Grocery Site For $5 Million

Weis Markets has taken a major step forward in bringing a long-awaited grocery store to Clarksburg Town Center, officially purchasing the site where its future store will be built.

According to reporting from Maryland Newsletters, Weis paid $5 million in April for the 4.5-acre grocery pad site located on St. Clair Road, just off Stringtown Road. The company plans to construct an approximately 56,000SF standalone store at the site, along with gas pumps.

The sale also marks a milestone for Elm Street Development, which has overseen the project’s evolution for more than a decade. As detailed by Maryland Newsletters, Elm Street originally acquired the Town Center property in 2011 for just $1 amid significant challenges, including an overpromised retail plan, infrastructure hurdles, and difficulty attracting a grocery anchor. Over the years, the developer worked through multiple redesigns while building out surrounding residential components and completing key road improvements, ultimately landing Weis as the centerpiece tenant.

With the grocery site now sold, Elm Street is preparing to move forward with the broader retail vision. The developer is expected to begin construction on several inline retail buildings, as well as approximately 190 apartment units. In total, the Town Center is anticipated to deliver around 50,000SF of additional retail space, including ground-floor retail within the apartment buildings.

Momentum for the project has been building in recent months. As we previously reported in November 2025, gas pumps for the Weis location have already been approved, and permitting for the broader retail components has been progressing with construction expected very soon.
