The 7-Eleven located at 8484 Georgia Ave., at the intersection with Wayne Ave. in Silver Spring, is permanently closing today, May 6, 2026.
Signage posted on the front door had previously confirmed the store’s final day of operation, directing customers to the nearest remaining location at 8101 Fenton St. A representative also previously confirmed the closure to The MoCoShow.
The closure follows another recent loss nearby, as the 7-Eleven at 1319 Fenwick Lane shut down last August. The latest closure comes as the convenience store giant continues a broader effort to streamline its footprint across North America.
According to C-Store Dive, the company expects to close 645 locations during its fiscal 2026 year, which runs from March 1, 2026 through February 28, 2027. Some of those closures are tied to conversions into wholesale fuel sites, which are not counted among traditional store locations.
While the company plans to open more than 200 new stores across North America during the same period, the overall trend continues a multi-year pattern of consolidation. Fiscal 2026 is expected to mark the fifth consecutive year in which more stores close than open.
