Police Arrest Man After Traffic Stop Reveals Stolen Vehicle

Chief Antonio DeVaul of the Takoma Park Police Department announced the arrest of Carlos Escamilla, 44, of no fixed address, in connection with a stolen vehicle investigation.

According to police, officers conducted a traffic stop after receiving an alert for a stolen vehicle. Takoma Park Communications confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Montgomery County.

Police said both the driver and passenger were given verbal commands to exit the vehicle and were safely detained without incident. Investigators later contacted the vehicle’s owner, who was unable to respond to the scene because they were out of state for work.

Escamilla, identified as the driver, was placed under arrest while the passenger was released at the scene. During an inventory search of the vehicle, officers also discovered the airbag was missing from the steering wheel.

Escamilla was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit and charged accordingly. A mugshot was not provided by Takoma Park Police.
