Suspect Armed With Icepick-Like Tool Assaults Security Guard At Walgreens

Takoma Park Police are investigating an alleged assault and theft that occurred Tuesday afternoon at the Walgreens located in the 1300 block of University Boulevard.

According to police, officers responded to the store at approximately 1:20pm on May 20 for a reported first-degree assault and larceny. Investigators say an unknown Hispanic male suspect with a large scar on his face was seen concealing merchandise in a bag while inside the store. The suspect was reportedly confronted by store security as he attempted to leave.

Police say the suspect became aggressive and tried to flee. When a security guard blocked the exit, the suspect allegedly brandished a metal icepick-like tool and struck the guard in the face, causing minor swelling to the victim’s left eye.

A brief struggle followed before the suspect dropped most of the merchandise and fled on foot toward Prince George’s County, according to police. Officers recovered items believed to have evidentiary value at the scene. The suspect was last seen wearing a gray shirt, black pants, and carrying a black cross-body bag.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Takoma Park Police Department and reference case #260022011.
