Kefa Cafe is celebrating 30 years of serving the Silver Spring community with a special anniversary celebration on June 20. The event will take place at the longtime downtown Silver Spring coffee shop, with doors opening at 9 am and a celebration program scheduled from 11 am to 1 pm.
Owned by Lene Tsegaye, Kefa Cafe opened what is widely considered downtown Silver Spring’s first community café and has become a neighborhood institution over the past three decades. Often referred to as “the living room of Silver Spring,” the café is known for its welcoming atmosphere, Ethiopian coffee, pastries, and strong connections to the local community.
Located at 963 Bonifant Street, Kefa Cafe has built a loyal following by providing more than just coffee. The café has long served as a gathering place for residents, business owners, artists, and community groups, making it one of downtown Silver Spring’s most recognizable and enduring small businesses.
