Metro Transit Police announced the arrest of a suspect wanted in connection with a firearm assault at the Silver Spring Transit Center and also reported the recovery of a firearm during a separate fare enforcement operation at the transit hub.
According to Metro Transit Police, officers made two significant arrests on Thursday as part of ongoing efforts to improve safety throughout the transit system.
One of the arrests involved a suspect who had been sought in connection with a first-degree assault involving a firearm at the Silver Spring Transit Center, located at 8404 Colesville Road. The incident occurred on May 25 at approximately 5:38am.
Metro Transit Police had previously released surveillance images of the suspect and sought the public’s assistance in identifying him. Authorities confirmed Thursday that the individual has now been arrested.
Police also announced that a firearm was recovered during a fare enforcement operation conducted at the Silver Spring Transit Center.
In a statement posted on social media, Metro Transit Police credited surveillance video and collaboration with multiple law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Marshals Service and the Montgomery County Department of Police, for helping lead to the arrests.
