A truck driver struck a utility pole in Gaithersburg late Thursday morning, bringing down power lines and forcing the closure of a section of Quince Orchard Road, according to Montgomery County Police and Alert Montgomery.

At approximately 11:07am, Alert Montgomery issued a severe traffic alert advising that all lanes of MD-124 (Quince Orchard Road) were closed between Great Seneca Highway (MD-119) and Quince Orchard Boulevard due to a traffic incident. Officials warned drivers to expect significant delays and seek alternate routes.

Just after 11:15am, Montgomery County Police provided additional details, stating that a truck had struck a utility pole, causing power lines to fall into the roadway. As a result, the following intersections are closed in both directions:

  • Quince Orchard Road at Purchase Road
  • Firstfield Road at Quince Orchard Boulevard
  • Quince Orchard Road at Twin Lakes Drive

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes while utility crews and emergency personnel work to clear the scene and repair the damaged infrastructure. No information on injuries has been released.
